Taffy used to chase the train —
Courageous cocker deemed insane
By some, I’m sure. We loved her, though.
When the sheriff had to go
And shoot her, how we cringed and cried!
He should have shot the train that tried
Its very best to run her down
And threw the rock that broke her crown!
He tied her to the nearest pole
While her eyes began to roll.
All the grown-ups stood around
To watch and wait without a sound.
Then . . . “BANG!” and all was quickly done.
He picked her up and sadly hung
His head. “Sorry folks,” he said.
The train still runs, but Taffy’s dead.
